                                                                                                            Jason E. Foss

Jason:                                       " What was your most memorable moment or greatest accomplishment so far as an Author?"

Brenda:

"The most memorable moment for me was watching my first short play being performed at The Bradford Playhouse (formerly The Priestley Theatre). At the time, I was part of a group for emerging playwrights called Snowgoose. This was founded by playwright, Jonathan Hall, who has many accolades to his credit – 20 plays for radio and TV, writer in residence at the National Theatre and twice winner of The Festival Fringe First Award. Jonathan was an excellent mentor and I learned a lot from him. As dialogue comes easily to me, I was in my element writing scripts. But, after seeing the performance of two other plays I had written, it struck me what little control the playwright actually has over the portrayal of his/her characters. Once the script is in the hands of the actors, they are at liberty to put their own interpretation on the personality/demeanour of the character, which doesn’t necessarily correspond with the author’s idea. It was a concept I had given little thought to until I watched another of my plays being performed (Beginning with W). In this, my belligerent traffic warden came across as far too affable, which took the edge off the play for me as it was not at all what I’d intended. It was a learning curve and underlined the fundamental difference between writing for the theatre and writing a novel; in effect,
  the varying skills it entails."

"Although I’ve found my niche as an author of suspense, I’m not ruling out the possibility of writing more plays, should the opportunity arise. There is nothing more gratifying than watching a work that you’ve created brought to life before your eyes, an experience I feel privileged to have had and one which I cherish."

Jason:                                         "What advice would you give to those trying to chase their dreams and be successful?"

Brenda:

"Be tenacious in the fight to reach your goals. When things get tough (as they invariably do) it can be all too tempting to give in. It’s at times like this that one of my favourite proverbs springs to mind and which has become my mantra: Faint heart never won fair lady. And it’s true. Success in any field requires a lot of determination and drive. If you are passionate about where you want to be, you can harness this by maintaining a positive attitude and learning from your mistakes."

Jason:                                          "Out of sales, Motivation, Marketing and Advice which ones could you use some help in?"

Brenda:

"Motivation has never been an issue for me and I have always been open to advice, but I do struggle with Sales and Marketing. The problem lies with the time it takes to promote my books – time I would much rather spend writing. It appears most self-published authors share my sentiments. Thankfully, there is a vibrant community of writers who are willing to support each other."

Jason:                                         "If you had to choose someone you know that has a lot of talent and a Passion, who would that be and what is their Passion or Talent?"

Brenda:

"I have a close friend who is a very talented artist, working in oils, water-colours, acrylics, pastels, gouache, pen and ink, and whose work covers just about any subject. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries in London and throughout the north of England and he has landed some impressive commissions. He is a prime example of what can be achieved with a strong passion and dedication. Having started out as a Graphic Designer, he never really felt fulfilled and had always harboured a strong desire to paint. It was several years before his dream finally materialised and this was after taking a huge risk by giving up a successful business so that he could paint full-time.  He admits to being self-taught as a painter, but he believed in himself and the gamble paid off. I am full of admiration and it’s wonderful to see how his passion and commitment drove him to become a success, doing something he loves."

Jason:                                         "What is the main reason you are a strong supporter of my new business?"

Brenda:

"All writers, be they newbie’s or well established, welcome the opportunity to showcase their work and read interesting interviews as a means of getting to know their fellow authors. Where better than a good blog site to give the author some exposure and help spread the word about her books? With so many bloggers within the writing community, I can imagine how difficult it must be to stand out. Having had the pleasure of interacting with you as one of your guests, I was impressed by your sunny personality, your courtesy, and the way you are prepared to go the extra mile to ensure an interview goes well. It’s obvious you put a lot of thought into the questions and that a lot of time and effort has gone into designing your new blog to make it interesting and appealing. Your enthusiasm shines through, Jason, and I wish you well. I feel sure you will make a success of it."

                                                                                                CLOSING

"Brenda Guiton shares something very important with us.  Be tenacious in the fight to reach your goal!  Notice how she uses the word 'fight'!  Because the fact of the matter is if you have a goal but you just stand still and do nothing your chances of achieving your goals is slim.  Just like boxing if you stand still and do nothing be prepared to get knocked out.  But if you keep moving.  If you use lazer type focus.  If you focus on your strengths and find a strategy to attain your goal and also take action you will be on your way to your goal.  So be Tenacious.  Try one way and if that way works stick with it.  If that way doesn't seem to get you closer tweak what you have to and find your niche.  My favorite thing that Brenda shared with us is how Promoting takes up so much time and she would much rather spend that time writing.  She also mentions that most self-published Authors share the same sentiment.  Here is what is great about her.  She does it anyway!  She takes the time to promote and she gets a lot of positive feedback and fans because she does what is not easy.  She puts in the work.  She is very encouraging to me and plenty of other Authors out there.  So learn from Brenda Guiton and find your niche and stay determined.  And it's the times when you feel like giving up that you must do the very opposite and keep going!  Click on the link above and buy "Suspicion".  Also, feel free to call the number below if you want to be added to our brick of friends and let us know how we can support you.
